How to save money when reading | Life with the Lamsays

I’ve managed to read 9 books since picking up my old hobby again a couple of weeks ago. I’ve always been a fast reader, and I’m really enjoying thrillers at the moment. Although I don’t mind some romance and a good mystery novel.

Back when I was younger, I was really into books about vampires (Twilight, Vampire Academy etc), and before that, I loved Jacqueline Wilson books. I stopped reading a while ago, but am really enjoying getting back into it.

I read 7 books in November, I’ve read 2 books so far this month, and I have 12 books on my December Hopefuls list, so let’s see how many I can get through this month.

I’m getting a Kindle for Christmas (thank you Chelle/Mumma) which will be really good to read on and find lots of new books on the app, however, there’s plenty of places to pick up books if you’re into reading too and want to save some money:

• The library (free to join - Wodonga/Albury/Lavington)
• Op shops (very cheap books)
• Second hand book shops (some are only a few $)
• Marketplace on Facebook (most people only read them once and then pop them up for sale)
• Street libraries (free)

Alternatively, you could start a book club and find other locals who love reading too and organise book swaps etc, or see if any of your friends have books you can borrow! Another top tip is to Google search the book title, click Shopping and see which stores have it the cheapest. For example, a book I picked up at Target for $8, is $14 at Big W. Even if it only saves you $5, it’s another $5 you could put towards another book, or a coffee whilst you read!
