Jess & family - Mums on the Border - Life with the Lamsays

In this week’s issue of Mums on the Border, we have the lovely Jess, who is not only super mum to her little man, but also runs the Friday morning playgroup at Felltimber Community Playgroup.

Hi, I’m Jess, Mum of a very energetic 3-year-old son, Magnus. We currently live in Wodonga. I work most weekends and this year Magnus is in Kinder or daycare during the week, so I don’t often get a full day to spend with him. One of our favourite things we do is to go to a random park - sometimes we look at Life with Lamsays for some park inspiration, sometimes we just see where we end up, that doesn’t always end well for us

A favourite playground we have which is close to home for us, allowing us to walk on nice sunny days, is Henry Nowik park off Mayfair drive, depending on which direction you come from.

We frequent this park in spring/summer as it has quite a lot of tree coverage making it quite cool. There is also water access for kids and dogs as well. We also enjoy this park as there is plenty of space to run, throw or kick balls, the play space is also enough for Magnus to be happy to enjoy being equipped with a slide and a swing – he is happy. There is also a bike track, although it is not as shaded as the rest of the park.

Magnus loves running up the bumps in the track, or attempting to ride his bike around the track.  Once Magnus has had enough playing, his new thing is asking if we can go for a walk. So, we go for a little walk around the block if we have driven, or we just walk back home if we haven’t. Magnus particularly likes this part of the adventure as it allows him to pick, smell and observe all the flowers from the side walks and lawn edges. He is very specific in the flowers he picks, only picking the yellow weeds – your flowers are safe, don’t worry.

I find that the walks after the park do tend to calm him a little bit, I think because he gets to connect with nature, which has some calming affect over him. Its also a really cheap and easy way to keep him entertained (and wear him out!) It also gets me out of the house, exercising and in the fresh air – which is never a bad thing.

Thanks for having me, until next time x
