Bridget & family - Mums on the Border - Life with the Lamsays

Welcome to our Mums on the Border takeover series! This first post was written by Mama Bridget, who has just moved to the area with her family. They discovered Harris Farm Markets in Albury before their move, and they love the playground there so much!

The Carrot at Harris Farm Markets. Fresh food playtime for our freshly arrived family!

We will have been in Albury for about two weeks when this is published, and what a whirlwind it’s been moving cities! Our family has moved Miss 7 and Mister 4 from further South this year and we’re ready to explore the region and find the most fun we can!

Early last year we came up on the train for a short trip (at $10 a ticket on V/Line it’s a no-brainer if you don’t need a car). We were lucky enough to stop by Harris Farm Markets to meet some friends for a meal, and discover what we’ve been referring to as The Carrot!

Located outside the checkouts, and adjacent to Fish in the Family and Blacksmith Provedore, this fully fenced play area is ideal for all weather play outings. The gate information indicates the area is for ages 6-12, however every visit we’ve seen kids much younger happily exploring.

There is a large carrot climbing frame, a tunnel slide and a play turf hill with rabbit tunnel running beneath for little bunnies to crawl through, or bigger kids to show off the agility of youth! Between the hill and carrot the vegie patch theme, continues with a kids height garden of seedlings to navigate. Miss 7 loves to climb and took to climbing and swinging on the seedlings.

Easy stepping stones line one of the brightly coloured garden walls for little bunnies to practice their hopping.

Parents can grab a coffee at Blacksmith and sit comfortably while the kids explore, or order from one of the food venues if it’s lunchtime. Miss 7 and Mister 4 have been loving our stops here, and being school holidays, have often found someone to play with or just use their imaginations to play a garden game.

When playtime is over make sure you check out the entrance to Harris Farm for the giant strawberry. There’s a wheel mechanism the kids can turn to make the strawberries legs, lashes and eyelids move.

The building also has clean bathroom facilities including a large parent room with change spaces, nursing area and microwave, cubicle with an adult and child toilet and basin pair. There’s also a small play cubby to entertain an older sibling during baby activities.

It’s not an extensive play area, but it has enough to inspire some great play for imaginative pre-kinder and primary school age kids.

Until next time!
