Sports for kids in Albury Wodonga - Life with the Lamsays

With so many different options in regards to sports, we really are spoiled for choice here in Albury Wodonga. There’s obviously plenty more, and if you’d like me to do another post like this with more activity suggestions, please let me know! But have a read through of the sports I’ve suggested, and hopefully something jumps out at you for your kiddos for next term!

Multi Sports at PCYC Albury

This activity is for kids aged 3+ and it involves sports such as: Soccer, Hockey, Basketball, Netball etc. It’s held on Saturday mornings, and each week the kids are introduced to a different sport. Hunter did a trial of this, and at the time he wasn’t much older than 2 and a half, so I think if he did it now, he’d be much more engaged. They did an introduction to soccer which was great, and parents got involved too.

Little Athletics in Wodonga

This is for kids aged 5+. There’s long jump, hurdles, shot put, high jump, relay etc. Training is held on Saturday mornings at the Wodonga Racecourse, and the kids have an opportunity to compete. This is great for keeping kids fit, but also with lots of variation within the sport, I’m sure your child would find something they enjoy!

Mini Roos

Mini Roos is for kids aged 4-6 years, and soccer is for 6 years and over. A lot of the local soccer clubs offer Mini Roos, including Wodonga Diamonds FC, Wodonga Heart, Albury City, and Yackandandah FC. Mini Roos is something we’d love to get Hunter involved in when he’s the right age, as we both come from families who played/play the sport! And soccer training is usually held once or twice a week, with matches held at the weekend. A great sport for improving fitness, teamwork, and coordination, as well as making new friends.

Swimming

Swimming is for birth and beyond. Some pools offer mums and bubs classes which is for water exposure and bonding. Then kids under 3 are usually supervised by a parent/guardian. There’s plenty of places to do swimming lessons in the Albury-Wodonga region: Seal Swim School & Wodonga Leisure Centre, EDGE Aquatics in Baranduda, SwimTech Albury etc. It’s an awesome life skill for your child to learn, and from just doing half a term at Seal, Hunter’s confidence in the water, as well as his ability to swim has come on so much!

Stay tuned for future posts like these, as I can definitely do more write ups about various activities kids can participate in on and around the border.

Until next time!
