Kinder Ninjas at Albury Wodonga Martial Arts - Life with the Lamsays

Kinder Ninjas is Albury Wodonga Martial Arts’ (AWMA) newest program specifically designed for 3-5 year olds. This class works on developing teamwork, focus, and co-ordination rather than self defence or fighting. Spaces are limited, and this class is only run in Wodonga, so make sure you message to check about availability!

Hunter has been going for a few weeks now, and whilst it’s taken him a little while to get used to the routine, he’s getting there with a lot of encouragement. The class goes for half an hour - the kids do a warm up, they practice punches, kicks and blocks, and after that, they move on to an activity using the pads. At the end, Sensei Justin chats to the class about what’s on for the next couple of weeks, and at the end, if the kids have listened and done well with the aim of the lesson, they get a stripe added to their belt. The first time Hunter went, it was a blue stripe for balance, the second time he didn’t get one as he didn’t focus, and the third lesson he got a green/yellow one for co-ordination.

There was a week off the following week, as the AWMA team went to Sydney to compete in a competition with martial artists from all over the world - ISKA. Our nephew, and Hunter’s cousin, got second place in kick boxing, as well as a cool silver belt! He also got 9th place for points sparring, and 13th place for kata.

Due to missing a lesson, Hunter seemed to go backwards in the listening department for a while, but he pulled it together at the end and scored himself a yellow stripe for focus. Something he definitely needs more work on both at home, and in the dojo. Kinder ninjas also allows the students to do gradings and work towards the different coloured belts, like in regular martial arts, and there’s also an app to book them in for classes and track their progression.

If you’re looking for an activity for your little ones, and it sounds like something you’d like them to try, check out their website now! There’s a kids karate class too, as well as classes for adults - so there’s something for everyone! Make sure you’re also following their Facebook page for updates, class changes, and offers that they have on.

 Until next time!
