Starting a new tradition with your kids

Now it’s definitely not Christmas any time soon, however the weather is still gorgeous, so this would make a lovely Easter tradition too if you’re looking for something new to add to your long weekend!

However, prior to having kids, my partner and I often went shopping on Boxing Day, and before meeting my partner, if we didn’t go shopping as a family, we’d be lounging around the house eating the leftovers from Christmas Dinner.

Whilst there’s nothing wrong with doing these things, we decided that our Boxing Day last year, was going to be one where we started a new tradition as a family. My work colleague mentioned that her family usually go to the Beechworth Berry Farm the day after Christmas, because it’s usually quiet as everyone is hungover or out shopping.

So that’s exactly what we did! We got up early, got ready for the day, and headed out to Beechworth to pick some berries!

Whilst Hunter probably could have run around and burnt off a bit of steam, it was boiling hot, so we pushed him round in the pram, and he was still at a good height to pick some of the berries lower down. We picked strawberries and raspberries, and little man had a great time - only nibbled at a couple too - and those ones were still counted in our final weigh in!

Once we were done picking, we got some fresh ice cream that they make using their berries, and it was absolutely delicious!

We went shopping afterwards, because what’s Boxing Day without a little shopping? But it was the perfect way to start the day, and we’re already looking forward to going again at the end of this year!

If you do decide to go yourselves, happy picking!
