Best Playgrounds in and around Albury Wodonga - Life with the Lamsays

So, it’s been a hot minute since I’ve posted on here.. like, it’s been so long ago that Hunter is almost ready to start toilet training, he’s been in day care for a year now, and it’s 2023!

This post isn’t food related, but hopefully, if you have a little one and live in or around the Albury-Wodonga area, you’ll find this post somewhat helpful.

It’s not even the end of February yet, and our little family have been checking out lots of playgrounds. Hunter loves being outside, and Mummy (me) likes being a big kid and having fun at the park as well!

Here’s a list of playgrounds that we’ve tried and tested so far:

  • Belvoir Park (Wodonga, VIC)
  • Les Stone Park (Wodonga, VIC)
  • Willow Park (Wodonga, VIC)
  • Oddies Creek Park (Albury, NSW)
  • Brooklyn Fields Park (Thurgoona, NSW)
  • Apex Park (Wangaratta, VIC)
  • Purtle Park Adventure Playground (Mulwala, NSW)
  • Riverside Adventure Playground (Bright, VIC)
  • Riverside Adventure Park (Wagga Wagga, NSW)
We also ventured a little further afield last weekend and visited two playgrounds in Melbourne:

- Phoenix Adventure Playground (Malvern, VIC)
- The Grange Reserve (Clayton, VIC)

The Melbourne playgrounds were amazing, but with so many other parks much closer to home, we probably won’t be visiting them too often!

Today we found the best playground we’ve been to so far, which is the Riverside Adventure Playground in Wagga Wagga, NSW. It’s about a 2 hour drive each way - so we did a couple of other things whilst we were there - but the playground & beach right beside it, were the best parts of our day out!

This playground has equipment for all ages - they have sand, a cool water feature, lots of different slides, mini trampolines, rock climbing bits, a flying fox - they pretty much have everything! And to be honest, considering the project when creating this masterpiece cost $9.6 million (I think), you’d want it to be every kid’s dream park!

Our top 3 playgrounds would have to be: Riverside Adventure Playground in Wagga Wagga, closely followed by Purtle Park Adventure Playground in Mulwala, NSW (which also has so much to do for different age groups and a “beach” nearby too), and in third place, it’s got to be Apex Park in Wangaratta, which also has a wicked parkour section for older kids, as well as the mini trampolines, big slides, and a big wooden hamster wheel!

If you’re in the Albury-Wodonga area, and don’t fancy driving more than half an hour to get to a playground, here’s my top 3 suggestions that are still great options: Brooklyn Fields in Thurgoona - it has a water feature and big sandpit for the kids who love to get grubby, Oddies Creek in Albury - lots of things to do for different age groups, a flying fox and it’s right next to the river, and Belvoir Park at Sumsion Gardens - the closest one to us with lots of different equipment, and Hunter is entertained for ages in there, as long as I’m following behind closely to go down the slides with him!

We still have some playgrounds on our bucket list that we want to visit once we’ve recovered from our trips away the past two weekends, but please feel free to leave some suggestions in the comments - even if they’re not in our local area, we’d love to get a caravan or pod to take travelling, so you never know!

  1. We found a similar park to Riverview in Corowa. It has a picnic area and plenty of play space for various ages.

  2. Hi there,
Ive recently heard there is like a mini zoo in the Wagga Wagga botanical Gardens. So you could have a lovely stroll through the gardens, a picnic maybe. Then go into the free zoo, and interact with heaps of different types of animals.
